Troy Follak joins Aerolane as Senior Vice President and Chief Engineer

  • Joining Aerolane to lead its engineering organization as the company advances its Aerocart systems toward certification, production, and commercial operations
  • Over three decades of aerospace engineering and program leadership across Gulfstream Aerospace, Boom Supersonic, Dassault Systèmes, Lockheed Martin, and Honeywell
  • Previously Chief Technical Officer at Boom Supersonic and Chief Engineer for Gulfstream’s large-cabin aircraft

Troy Follak is joining Aerolane to lead the company’s engineering organization, bringing over three decades of experience designing, integrating, testing, and certifying advanced aircraft.

Aerolane is progressing from proving modern aerotowing in flight to developing products that can be certified, manufactured, and reliably operated by commercial and defense customers. Troy will lead the engineering organization through that transition, connecting aircraft design, systems integration, certification, and program execution.

“Troy understands that an ambitious aircraft only becomes valuable when a disciplined team can turn it into a safe, certifiable, operational product,” said Aerolane CEO Todd Graetz.

“He has done that work across some of aviation’s most consequential programs. Just as importantly, he knows how to build engineering organizations whose people take ownership of the mission.”

Troy says “Aerolane is working on the kind of aviation problem that has always drawn me in – difficult but very consequential when done right.” He added, “the team has already done the hard work of proving the physics in flight. I’m excited to help turn that foundation into products customers can depend on.”

About Troy Follak

Follak began his aerospace career in systems and avionics engineering, including work on Lockheed Martin’s C-130J program and roles at Honeywell Air Transport and Dassault Systèmes.  

He subsequently spent nineteen years at Gulfstream Aerospace. His responsibilities grew from project engineering to G650 wing project engineering, leadership of G650 Project Engineering and Flight Test Engineering, and ultimately large-cabin chief engineer. He contributed to the G650 program, which received the 2014 Robert J. Collier Trophy.  

Follak later joined Boom Supersonic, where he served in roles from Chief engineer to Senior Vice President of Engineering and Programs to Chief Technology Officer. He was responsible for the technical direction and integration of Overture while building the engineering, certification and program management organizations supporting its design and certification. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Citadel and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a past chair and current member of The Citadel’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Advisory Board.
